Memphis Meetups: Bitcoin & Crypto Events in Memphis

Memphis has ascended to the number two spot on the list of top U.S. cities with the highest crypto holdings per person. The city now has three Pelicoin ATMS, making it easier than ever for Memphians to convert their cryptocurrency to cash. Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and others are gaining traction in The Birthplace of Rock and Roll. If you live in the Memphis metro area, now is the ideal time to get in on the city’s cryptocurrency renaissance.

New to Cryptocurrency?

Jump in with a course that explains it all. Check out this Blockchain Training on Saturday, January 12th (and again on February 2nd), hosted by Entirety Technologies. This class, which consists of five sessions that are each two hours long, can be taken online or in person.

You’ll walk away with a comprehensive overview of blockchain technology, which powers all cryptocurrencies. In this course, you’ll learn how it works and how to use it, as well as its history, evolution, and future. You’ll also learn about the various cryptocurrencies themselves, and what distinguishes them from one another. Additionally, the course covers cryptocurrency mining, cryptography, and how to develop a simple blockchain application.

If you don’t have formal experience in the field, don’t sweat it. Programming knowledge is desirable but not a prerequisite for the course. Knowledge of Python, javaScript, NodeJS and ReactJS is certainly advantageous, but beginners who have little or no programming conduit will also gain a lot from the course.

No matter your prior skill level, Entirety plans for participants to be able to:

  • Understand the importance of blockchain technology

  • Understand how bitcoin transactions are validated by miners

  • Create and use a bitcoin account effectively

  • Have deep insight into bitcoin and its network

  • Understand Ethereum blockchain

  • Comprehend cryptography and cryptocurrency concepts

  • Learn Solidity, a prominent language used to develop smart contracts

  • Deploy your private blockchain on the web in order to see your chains

  • Develop private blockchains in MultiChain

  • Discuss the compelling use-cases of the blockchain

  • Interpret the prospects of blockchain

  • Asses how blockchain can improve your business standards

The course offers 100% refunds to those who request a refund 24 hours before the first session.

Mentor Underrepresented Youth

Volunteer with Code Crew, a Memphis-based group that facilitates city-wide programming to help underrepresented youth become tech innovators. Code Crew offers practical computer science education programs throughout Memphis, including summer camps, after-school programs, in-school elective classes, internships, and special events. Code Crew teaches youth about computation and digital systems and apply those concepts to programming and software development.

Some of their work even involves blockchain platforms. At the 2018 EthMemphis Conference, Code Crew kids wrote their first smart contracts on the Ethereum network with Solidity code using CryptoZombies.

Network With The Local Crypto Community

Follow the Memphis-based crypto Meetup group, Blockchain901. If you’re into Ethereum or other blockchain platforms, this is the group for you. According to the group’s bio, they aim to “spur conversation about distributed ledger technologies (activity ledgers, digital value transfers, smart contracts) and applications thereof, within the Memphis business & legal community. Our initial focus will be on the travel, hospitality property, & energy management (microgrid) applications.”

No matter your goals, skills or knowledge surrounding cryptocurrency, Memphis has a lot to offer. So get out there and get involved! There’s no time like the present.
